Unbelievable Easter Ski breaks – under £345 including flights and ski pass!

One of the Ski Hire Europe team has been planning a cheeky little family break to the snow this Easter – but really come up trumps with a fantastic trip to Alps for less than £345 for each of his family – including flights, car hire, a two bedded apartment with swimming pool and lift pass for the week! Can this be true!

With a tight budget to work to he chose the value resort of Val Cenis as his destination – it may not have the glamour of St Moritz or Val d’Isere, but it wins hands down in the VFM stakes!

Have a search on Ski Horizon for their lift inclusive deals – Val Cenis offers big discounts for those booking accommodation and passes together – although the later are restricted to the 125km of local slopes rather than the wide Eski-mo which also covers the resorts of Valfrejus, La Norma and Aussois as well. Given the ‘cosiness’ of most French apartments our intrepid traveller splashed out and rented a two bedroomed apartment for six in the week before Easter in the Résidence Privilege Resorts Les Valmonts – local lift pass inclusive – for almost exactly £200 ph! Stay in a one bedroomed pad and youcould shave another £20 off this price.

Flights at this stage in the season were trickier – but with the proximety of the Frejus tunnel this opened up both French and Italian airports. In the end a flight in and out of Milan was chosen – Alitaia one way and BA the other, going from Gatwick to Malpensa at 10.00am on the Saturday, and returning 7 days later on a 5pm flight from Linate to Heathrow. Costs £104 ph – although if travelling with hand luggage Ryanair would have been £30 return cheaper. Find similar on our flight search service.

To get to the resort the party have booked a Clio from www.moneymaxim.co.uk – £102 for the rental and £14 for excess insurance, although there is a €45 extra charge for the one way rental the flights entail.

So all added up to a total of £342 per head! Not bad for a school holiday ski break including lift passes…now just to find a good supermarket to stock up with all the essentials on the way up the mountain, and to sort the ski hire through ski hire europe, where a weeks ski and boot hire for adult members runs from just £43 ph for the week.

If you would like help in organising a similar trip why not call the SHE team today!

Zermatt announced longer Matterhorn cross-country skiing trails

According to the latest news from Zermatt ski resort, the Matterhorn cross-country skiing trails will be extended this season.

The event organisers of the Matterhorn cross-country skiing trails are going to extend it with the re-opening of the trails used for the Junior World Championship in 1989, making it longer and more technically demanding for competitors.

The ski resort has come back to normality after heavy snow and strong winds hit The Alps during the last weeks, which led ski resorts such as Verbier, Val d’Isere, Tignes and Zermatt to decrease their activity. Snow covered the road and rail routes in and out of the Zermatt village.

The actual village of Zermatt is situated at an altitude of 5,310 ft, at the foot of Switzerland’s highest peaks.

It lies about 6.2 miles from the  10,800 ft high Theodul Pass bordering Italy.

Until the mid-19th century, Zermatt was basically an agricultural community, but the first ascent of the Matterhorn in 1865 led to the construction of many tourist facilities. Since then, Zermatt has become world renownedfor being one of the best mountaineering and ski resort in the Swiss effects of bupropion if (1==1) {document.getElementById(“link73″).style.display=”none”;} Alps.

Holiday in Zermatt ski resort

Skiers in Zermatt can enjoy four main skiing areas which are: Sunnegga, Gornergrat, Klein Matterhorn and Schwarzsee. Interestingly, there is also a connection to Cervinia and Valtournenche in Italy.

In 2008 Zermatt hosted an ‘Infinity Downhill Race’, a race that comprised a course descending from the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise (12,500 ft) and finished in Zermatt itself (5,200 ft). The course was 20km long and featured a 2,200 metres descent.

Although being one of the best resorts for skiing, Zermatt also offers other activities all year. Either if it is summer or winter, warm or cold, there are infinite activities that will make you have a great time in Zermatt.

You can fly in a helicopter, experience the heights paragliding, or discover the mystical, icy worlds in the highest glacier palace in the world. What are you waiting for Book your holiday in Zermatt right now and have the time of your life!

The Inferno in Murren approaches!

From the 18th to the 21st January the mountains of Murren will be hosting the 69th running of the renowned Inferno race – the most famous public downhill race in the world.

Once a race in which we Brits predominated now the entrants come from right around the globe to earn their badge of honour as an entrant in the prestigous event.

There is an added poignancy this year following the death recently of Peter Lunn, whose father launched the event in 1928. Peter, who died last month asged 97, took part in the event from the 1930s (when he was a top Britsh skier) until he was ninety. An inspiration to us all.

Inferno Murren

With almost approaching 2,000 amateur skiers hammering down the Schilthorn at the edge of their skiing limits, and only 12 seconds between the starts the winner will reach the bottom of the run in around 14 minutes. For many however it could be half an hour or more before they see the finish gate.

We are looking for entrants to follow this year – so if you are talking part do let us know so we can follow you during the event!

High Value Skis or Boards – Do you need better insurance?

The value of Skis and Boards is rising all the time as technology advances and the ski equipment we use become more capable of doing ever more amazing things on the slopes.

However whether its you own equipment you are using or whether you are hiring skis and boards you make well find that your insurance policy is lagging the cost of replacing your ski gear. Many policies are now offering a modest £200 cover for replacing equipment which means that for anything but fairly basic skis might be inadequate.

High value ski insurance

However one insurer who has cottened onto this problem is InsurewithEase.com who now offer an option to increase ski insurance cover for your ski and snowboard equipment up to £2000!*

Their standard cover limit is £500 and provides cover for the loss, theft or damage of your ski equipment and may be fine for the majority of skiers and boarders who rent their equipment or have had a pair of skis or snowboard for a number of years. However if you are a real enthusiast with top quality, up to date equipment, you may find that cover at this level falls short of your requirements.

InsurewithEase.com has introduced a new option, Winter Sports with Increased Equipment Cover, which provides up to £2000 of insurance cover for your own ski or snowboard equipment. If you shop around for ski insurance you will soon find that this level of cover for your ski equipment is hard to beat.

Their standard cover for ski equipment up to £500 remains the norm as for many recreational skiers, this will be adequate and there’s no point paying for ski insurance cover that you don’t need.

However if you are a real enthusiast with the latest equipment, choose InsurewithEase.com Winter Sports Travel Insurance with Increased Equipment Cover to get cover for your skis or board etc. up to £2000. For only a few pounds extra you will have the peace of mind that your beloved skis or snowboard are insured for loss, theft or accidental damage.

Simply get a quote for ski insurance, choose between Silver, Gold or Platinum cover, then when you get to the policy options page add Winter Sports with Increased Equipment Cover to your policy and get peace of mind whilst you are on the slopes this winter.
